School Environment and History
The school environment and history
The name of the village is derived from two Erse words, Dun and
Draegh signifying a hill of oaks hence our school emblem. It is a
village with a long and fascinating history, and is set on the edge of the beautiful Chew
Valley with splendid views over the city of Bristol and beyond, to the Severn Estuary and
the coastline of Wales. We are proud of our place within this community, and as a church
school seek to uphold and explore the moral and spiritual values which derive from the
Christian tradition.
The school is a Victorian building set in attractive, landscaped grounds. Much work has
been completed on the buildings and the grounds to ensure that though originally built in
1857 we cater for the needs of pupils of the 21st century.
